The actual theory test
In the theory test for lorry and bus drivers you will be asked 100 questions in 115 minutes.
The pass mark for the multiple choice part of the theory test is 85 out of 100.
The hazard perception test consists of 19 clips containing 20 scoreable hazards to be identified within a timeframe of 25 minutes.
The pass mark is 67 out of 100.

PCV D1 MiniBus Training
The PCV D1 mini bus driving licence is available for drivers aged 21 or over and drivers who passed their car driving test after January 1st 1997 and wish to drive a minibus with more than 8 passenger seats and for those that hold the licence on grandfather rights and wish to get the restriction lifted.
Our PCV D1 Mini Bus driver training vehicle is a 17 seat Ford Transit 430, it has the advantage of simple car like controls, brakes and gears, whilst meeting all DSA requirements to gain your PCV D1 Mini Bus licence.
D1+E MiniBus and Trailer Training
The PCV D1+E minibus and trailer driving licence is available for drivers aged 21 or over and hold the unrestricted D1 entitlement .
Driver Training Courses
Our PCV D1 minibus and D1+E driver training courses are between 3 and 5 days duration depending upon your driving experience and ability to fully prepare you for the DSA driving test standard. If you are unsure which PCV training course you require we can carry out an assessment drive to determine your course.

DRIVERS CPC
An individual's circumstances will determine if they acquire the Driver CPC.
- New drivers acquiring a PCV vocational entitlement (D1, D1+E, D, D+E licence) after the 10th September 2008 and/or an LGV vocational entitlement (C1, C1+E,C or C+E licence) after the 10th September 2009 will have to obtain the initial Driver CPC in addition to their licence to drive professionally.
There are a number of Driver CPC exemptions associated with the Directive. These are listed below:
- Vehicles with a maximum speed not exceeding 45 Kph
- Vehicles used by the armed forces, civil defence, and emergency services
- Vehicles undergoing road tests for technical development, repair or maintenance
- Vehicles used in states of emergency
- Vehicles used in the course of driving lessons or examinations
- Vehicles used for non-commercial carriage of passenger or goods – for personal use
- Vehicles used for carrying material of equipment to be used by the driver in the course of his or her work, providing that driving the vehicles is not the drivers’ principle activity
Ultimately, it is up the driver and their employer to decide if they are covered by these exemptions, and if necessary, justify it to the competent authority.

" Passed your car driving test in the last 12 years? "Did you know that drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to gain entitlement to category C1, D1 and all larger vehicles. "Do I need to pass the PCV D1 minibus test?" You will need to take and pass the D1 minibus test if:
1. You passed your car test before 1st Jan 91 and do not hold the D1 entitlement.
2. You passed your car test before 1st Jan 91 and hold the D1 entitlement with the 101 restriction and wish to work for hire and reward.
3. You passed your car test after 1st Jan 91 and wish to drive a vehicle with more than 8 passenger seats regardless of whether it is for hire and reward or not..
