Driver training for the DSA LGV C1 driving test (Ambulance driving licence). Our instructors have been training lorry and bus drivers for over 25 years and have a 90 + % 1st time pass rate.
We offer both LGV C1 and PCV D1 ambulance driver training courses to enable individuals or groups to drive an ambulance or a passenger transport vehicle (minibus). We provide C1 ambulance driver training courses to most of the ambulance services.

The LGV C1 driving test is conducted at the DSA large goods vehicle driving test centre with an off road manoeuvring area. The test lasts about 90 minutes. A VERY HIGH standard of driving is required to pass this type of test.
Course: LGV C1 (Ambulance) medium goods vehicle with a MAM over 3500kg and under 7500kg. Location: Southampton
Age: 18+ For drivers 18+ who passed their car driving test (cat B) after January 1st 1997. and wish to drive a lorry with a MAM over 3500kg and under 7500kg.
Course length: 12 to 30 Hours
LGV C1 driver training courses are between 12 and 30 hours duration depending upon your driving experience and ability to fully prepare you for the DSA LGV C1 driving test standard.
Typically this can be done between 2 and 5 days in duration.
Medical: Take the LGV medical
Apply for your provisional LGV C1 licence entitlement Theory Test: Pass the LGV theory and Hazard perception tests. Test Criteria:
Answer 5 questions relating to basic safety and loading of the vehicle.
Complete an `S` shaped reversing exercise accurately and safely.
Drive on road drive for about an hour in varying roads and traffic conditions including motorways where possible.
Complete an Independent drive, uphill, downhill and angled starts
Demonstrate a high standard of driving throughout.
Drivers who got their drivers licence after September 1997 will be required to do the driver initial CPC before they can drive for hire and reward.
The initial CPC consists of two parts, module 2 theory case study and module 4 practical test.

Our LGV C1 ambulance driver training vehicle is an easy to drive VW LT 46 it has the advantage of being small and manoeuvrable, with simple controls, brakes and gears, whilst meeting all DSA requirements to gain your LGV C1 ambulance licence.

LGV Category C1 'Ambulance' (7.5t)
The LGV C1 (C1 ambulance) driving licence is required to drive most ambulances and horse boxes. Generally the London Ambulance Service requires you to have the LGV C1 licence entitlement. Other areas of the county, such as Surrey Ambulance Service and Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Ambulance Service, require both the LGV C1 and PCV D1 licence entitlements.
If you are unsure which LGV C1 training course you require we can carry out an assessment drive to determine your course.
IMPORTANT: When looking for a training provider make sure you know how many hours you are getting per day. Many providers are quoting " Price per day " but the day is typically only 3 to 3.5 hours duration.
