Need to drive a horsebox or ambulance?

The LGV C1 licence is for drivers who passed their car driving test after January 1st 1997 and wish to drive a van or rigid goods vehicle with a MAM over 3500kg and up to 7500kg.

The LGV C1 licence is available for drivers aged 18 or over who have a full car driving licence. This licence is required to drive most ambulances and horseboxes up to 7500kg.

Our C1 training vehicle a VW LT 46 with a gross weight of 4600kg has the advantage of being small and manoeuvrable, with simple controls and gears, whilst meeting all DSA requirements to gain the LGV C1 licence.

Our courses for the LGV C1  ambulance are between two and four days training depending on your driving experience, to get you to the DSA vocational test standard.

To gain your LGV C1 licence you will need to:

  • Take the LGV medical

  • Apply for provisional LGV C1 licence entitlement from DVLA

  • Book and pass the LGV theory test

  • Book your C1 course

  • Pass the C1 DSA practical test

 

All courses are one to one tuition unless arranged by you.

Each day consists of six hours one to one training with a short break, starting the day at our safe off road site, with the driving test at the end of the last day. The courses cover all that is required for you to pass the LGV C1 test.

Above costs are ALL INCLUSIVE and include the current test fee of £105 (weekday)

" Passed your car driving test in the last 10 years? read on "

Drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to drive a vehicle between 3500kg and 7500kg and gain entitlement to category LGV C1 and LGV C1+E.

All drivers who passed a car test before 1 January 1997 retain their existing entitlement to tow trailers until their licence expires. This means they are generally entitled to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8.25 tonnes MAM. They also have entitlement to drive a minibus with a trailer over 750kgs MAM.
